Hi5’s First Gala Event!
July 11, 2024Last week the BBI AIMS Games team travelled down to Tauranga to compete in the 84 team intermediate 5v5 Basketball competition.
BBI started the competition fantastically, winning their first 3 games against Albany Junior High School (52 – 28), Te Wharekura o Kirikiriroa (64 – 15), and TKKM o Hurungaterangi (62 – 30). Their final pool game came against the 2023 champions and eventual 2024 champions Tauranga Intermediate School. The boys were unfortunately not able to get over the line and after fighting hard they lost to Tauranga (62 – 20) which meant they finished 2nd in their pool.
After finishing 2nd in their pool this meant that the boys were placed into the groups competing for 17-32 place. This started off with a win in the round of 16 against Maidstone Intermediate (32 – 12), and then another huge win against Feilding Intermediate (31 – 24) in the quarterfinals. In the semi final match the boys played in a nailbiter against Cambridge Middle School, eventually losing by just 3 points (18 – 15). In their final game the boys played Kristin School for 19th place, and tried their very best but unfortunately lost the match (28 – 17) and ended up placing 20th. This is massively successful for the BBI team and is one of their top placings.
We are incredibly proud of the boys for their hard work and effort! This would not be able to happen without the hard work and support of our coaches and support crew, so we would like to extend a massive thank you to coach Quincy and the parents and staff who put in so much hard work to look after and support the team.
